50 Years of History and Tradition
On Saturday, September 7th, an event was held for commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of both Seinan University and Kyushu University Aikido Clubs. From 1PM, a joint practice and an enbukai were held at Fukuoka Budo-kan. We had fun and lively practice and enbukai with some participants who practiced for the first time since they graduated or for the first time in 40 or 50 years. After the event, there was a celebration party at Seinan University Cross Plaza. During the party, we all had a great time talking about the good old days and it ended with full of fun conversations as we all forgot about the time.
I sincerely wish both Aikido clubs and their members continued success and health.
Asagiri Dojo 40th Anniversary
On Sunday, September8th, the commemorating enbukai for Asagiri Dojo’s (Mr. Kenji Takayama, Dojo Rep) 40th anniversary was held at Asagiri Town Martial Arts Hall in Kumamoto Prefecture. People participated from the dojos in Kumamoto as well as Omuta. After the enbukai, we had a celebration party at a nearby hot springs center. It was a very lively party with songs and dances performed by the female dojo members, and they got as much applause as the enbukai.
Kurume Dojo 40th Anniversary as well
Kurume Dojo, founded in 1979 with Norichika Tokuda Sensei’s sponsorship, celebrated its 40th anniversary as well. We held the anniversary event at Kurume Arena on Sunday, September 22nd. With so many participants from nearby dojos, we had a successful joint practice and enbukai as well as a celebration party at the Highness Hotel.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Mikio Shigetomi Sensei, who is the dojo representative, the event organisers, and all the dojo members for everything from the preparation to the cleanup.
Onga Dojo 5th Anniversary
On Saturday, September 21st, the 5th anniversary event for Onga Dojo (Mr. Norio Nishioka, Dojo Rep) was held at Onga Minami Junior High School Martial Arts Room. I wish the dojo’s further success like the word Sekisho Idai (Accumulating small efforts will lead to a great achievement).
On Sunday, September 15th, an examination and a seminar for Minamata Dojo (Mr. Sumihisa Einaga, Dojo Rep) were held at Minamata City Martial Arts Hall. Many people participated from dojos in Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima and Omuta.
On Sunday, August 25th, an examination and a seminar for Nagasaki Shomonkai (Mr. Atsushi Maeda, Dojo Rep) were held at Nagasaki Prefecture Gymnasium. People from Isahaya Dojo as well as from Fukuoka joined us. After the events, we recharged at a yakiniku BBQ party and returned to Fukuoka.
