Hatsu Geiko – Ended on a High Note
On January 2nd, we had our traditional Hatsu Geiko (the first-of-the-year practice) at Tenjin Dojo. It was busy with over 130 people including those who were back in town for holidays and those who were not Shohei Juku members. After the practice, we enjoyed conversations as having omiki (sacred sake). We concluded the event by singing Ichigatsu Tsuitachi (January 1st).
New Year Greetings Party at Honbu Dojo
On Saturday, January 11th, the directors’ meeting of All Japan Aikido Federation was held in the Aikikai Honbu meeting room, which was followed by the national representatives meeting held in the large dojo on the third floor. After that, I attended the New Year Greetings Party at Keiko Plaza Hotel. I left the party a little earlier, and joined the New Year’s party with Yokohama Shomonkai members. It was a busy day.
Kagami Biraki at Honbu Dojo
On Sunday, January 12th, the annual Kagami Biraki (a traditional ceremony of cutting up and eating the New Year’s rice cake) was held at Aikikai Honbu Dojo.
The ceremony started at 2PM with greetings by Doshu, followed by greetings from honored guests, a hono enbu (a dedicatory enbu by Doshu), a promotion certificate award ceremony, and a Naorai (zenzaikai) party.
Shohei Juku Kagami Biraki
On Sunday, January 19th, we held the Shohei Juku Kagami Biraki ceremony at Tenjin Dojo. The emcee for the ceremony was Mr. Takayoshi Kanato. Before starting the ceremony, we offered a silent prayer to the Founder and the Second Doshu, and then we had greetings by Dojo-cho, dedicatory enbu, and awarding promotion certificates. We had a zenzai-kai after the ceremony. This year, we had over 270 participants, and we all enjoyed the delicious zenzai (red bean soup with rice cake).
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the volunteers for preparing from the early morning and cleaning up after the event.
